Shipping FAQs

We strive to ship all plant orders as quickly as possible, usually within 2-5 business days.  Orders received after 12pm ET on Thursday or Friday will be shipped the following week. Some orders may require a few additional days to process and although these types of delays are rare, we will try to keep you informed.

Once your order is shipped, you will receive an email confirmation with your tracking number and estimated delivery date.

Sometimes the weather does not cooperate with ideal shipping or planting time-frames, so we reserve the right to delay shipping due to severe weather in your area or ours.

Sometimes the seasons are delayed and plants take longer to reach specifications.  Although these types of delays are rare, we try to keep you informed. The health of your plants is our highest concern.  Most orders are scheduled to arrive within 3 to 8 days from notification that your order has shipped, although some exceptions may occur.  Note that some extremely remote areas may require 5 to 10 days in transit.

Shipping Plants during extreme weather
We do our best to not ship plants during extreme weather months such as deep winter. Understanding your own weather conditions is your responsibility, so please be conscious of weather conditions in your area when you are placing your order.  If your area is currently experiencing extreme weather - such as 90+ degrees, or below freezing and snowing, or a hurricane is headed your way - please consider waiting to order until the weather will be milder to help ensure that your plant will do well in transit.

Spring Shipping
Due to the nature of certain cold sensitive plants, it is best to ship them during months with milder temperatures. Spring shipped items are identified on their product page, as well as information on different
Hardiness Zone that only ship in Spring.

Customer Care of Plants when packages are received
The customer takes full and sole responsibility for providing care to the plants once in your possession.  Once you receive your order, please open the box(s) and unpack the plants immediately. Failure of live plants to thrive is the sole responsibility of the customer.  If your area is extremely cold or hot during a particular month and you choose to order plants, you are assuming the risk of the safe arrival of those live plants. Please be sure to instruct your mail carrier on proper placement of such packages to avoid prolonged temperature exposure.

Clear instructions for planting are located online at Outside.com/PlantsFAQ.  If you still have additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us using our online Contact Us Form for additional guidance regarding planting and plant care.

How your plants are shipped

Plant Shipping damage
You can be assured we take packaging very seriously and we guarantee your plant to arrive undamaged.

Each plant is specially packaged to maintain soil moisture and keep the soil ball intact and in the pot.  Each pot is securely fastened in the shipping carton, and the plant is stabilized to avoid major breakage.

Although we try to pack for the bumps and turbulence that the plants will experience along the way, minor branch breakage and minor leaf loss (from shipping) is fairly common and is not considered “damage”.  It is also typical for the root ball and soil to be shaken up or loosened up in shipping, which is not considered “damage”.

Please do not plant a "damaged" plant thinking you can bring it around without contacting us first!  We want to know immediately! Otherwise a plant that could be saved becomes your responsibility. Please use our online Contact Us Form to notify us of any problems or claims.

Clear instructions for planting are located on the plant tag, and care instructions are also online at Outside.com/Plant Care FAQ.  If you still have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us using our online Contact Us Form for additional guidance with planting and plant care.

In the unlikely event your plant is damaged in transit, or if for any reason you think your plant is unhealthy, please consult our Returns and Exchanges Policy for instructions on requesting a replacement or refund.

Please send photos of the plants in question to help assess your damage claim.
